Comacchio in the Middle Ages
Museo Delta Antico
The commercial rise of Comacchio
Seen as a great emporium from a Mediterranean perspective, for centuries, it dominated the Adriatic.
Established in the Late Antiquity Age, Comacchio quickly became a dynamic commercial entity which was capable of managing trade and goods towards the East and along the course of the river Po, for the whole of northern Italy; a rising power protected by rivers and lagoons, that played a fundamental role during the Middle Ages.
