The History of the Museo Delta Antico
The Museo Delta Antico opened on the 25th March 2017, thanks to the collaboration between the Comune of Comacchio, the Superintendence and Emilia Romagna Museum Center – “Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Ferrara”.
Embracing the legacy of the “Museo del carico della nave romana” (2001-2016) it expands on the collection with never-before-exhibited finds from the Delta area, with an uninterrupted sequence of artefacts that come from the Bronze Age right up to the Modern Age.
The exhibition route, spread over 1200m2 presents diverse architectural solutions that seek to bring together the vast spaces of the ancient Hospital with reference to the characteristic elements of the territory: water, sand and wood.
Strongly willed by the citizens as being a testimony to the great past of the region, as well as being a tourist attraction, it is, above all else, a place of culture. As its name states, it aims to tell the story of the entire Delta region. With over 20,000 visitors annually, the Museo Delta Antico stands out as being one of the principal archaeological museums in northern Italy.
